Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.

Advertising Myths

There are some things that advertising, by itself, can't do. Let's dispel a few of the most common misconceptions. We'll call them advertising myths.

Myth #1: If a product isn't selling well, advertise it.

Advertising - even the most clever, funniest, most expensive advertising - can't make people buy something they don't want. It can create awareness of a product, it can even get people to come see the product. But if people know that they don't like or need the product, advertising won't help sell it. In fact, advertising can backfire: You could end up drawing attention to the fact that you carry unwanted goods.

For example, look at a choice facing an electronics store. Should it advertise its wide selection of new, hot electronic game cartridges? Or should it advertise those hi-fi needles and stereo speakers that are still gathering dust with the hope of finally unloading them? The store is already taking a loss on the purchase price of the older merchandise; should it then advertise these losers, and thus increase losses of both money and its image as a state-of-the-art electronics vendor?

Why not advertise the best items, the product leaders that will draw people in. And, maybe some of the older merchandise will be seen and picked up at no further expense to the business.

Myth #2: Advertising can create sales.

Many people think that advertising is the same thing as marketing. Or that advertising is the same as selling. Or that they are all the same thing.

Marketing encompasses all the activities that are entailed in moving your product from creation to purchase, from research to packaging. Marketing looks at product, price, promotion and placement factors; you will hear these referred to as the "4 Ps of Marketing."

Advertising is one way to teach people about your product. You can use it to communicate what a product is, how it will fill a need or enhance life, how much it costs and where the buyer can get it.

You can use it to differentiate a product or develop an image.

But it's good marketing - the overall strategy that might include advertising - that can (and should) produce in sales. Good advertising can create traffic, interest or an image. It can even position your product in relation to the competition. But, by itself, advertising can't create a sale.

Why not? Because the other marketing components have to work with it. People may want a product they heard advertised, but they won't buy it unless they:

can afford the price that has been set,
find the place they can purchase it, and
like the product

Myth #3: Advertising can manipulate people to buy.

If this myth was true, then some ad executive somewhere would have the secret to success. If a secret to success exists, why do 80 percent of new products fail? Why do established products drop from sight?

People have needs for products and services, but they have choices on how to fill those needs. Their decision to buy your product will be based upon their belief that what you offer satisfies their need. It will also be based upon their readiness to buy.

Photoshop Tutorial: Typeface Effect

There are a lot of typeface effects that can be done in Photoshop and we can find various tutorials on this topic through Internet. Today, this post will concentrate on creating a simple typeface effect on the word CREACTIVE using Photoshop. We hope you all like it and give it a try yourself with these or others effects. Enjoy!

1) Go to FILE > NEW… and create a new 600px x 200px document with a white background. Check the image above if you are unsure about the settings.

2) Now let´s create the gradient for the background. In fact, this is the gradient that we will be using for the text effect. It simply looked nice as the background too. 1 – Select the Gradient tool. 2 – Click on the gradient and the gradient editor window will open.

3) 1 – Create the new gradient using the settings in image below.
2 – Click on the NEW button and give it a recognizable name.
3 – The new gradient will appear on the gradients library.

4) Select the gradient tool and then from the gradients pull down menu (1), choose the gradient we´ve just created (2). Select the ANGLE GRADIENT option (3).

5) Check the image below to see how to apply the gradient. Place the cross on the top left corner of the image and drag it to the right. It is very important to start (point 1) the gradient at the very top left corner of the image or even outside the image, but never inside the image, it won´t look good. Since we are using the ANGLE GRADIENT option, it doesn´t matter where you release the mouse (point 2) as long as you keep the line horizontal.

6) You should get a result similar to this one.

7) Now, This stage involves much more than typing a word. You will have to create a layer for each character of the word. That´s because we will be using Layer Styles. And each letter will have its own Layer Style assigned to it. Before starting, download the Disco Deck font and install it on your system. To install a font on your system follow these instructions for MAC or PC. After installing the font, select the Text tool, set 150px as the font size, and type the letter C.

8) Press CTRL + ENTER (on PCs) or COMMAND + RETURN (on MACs) to release the tool. Click again with the text tool and a new text layer will be created. Type the letter R and release the tool again by pressing CTRL + ENTER (on PCs) or COMMAND + RETURN (on MACs). Do the same over and over until you have all the five letters on a different text layer each.

9) Now we are going to arrange the letters to get the overlapped look of the final effect. That should be fairly easy. Just select the MOVE tool, check the AUTO SELECT option, and drag each letter closer to the other and overlap them as much as you want.

10) To achieve the shaded paper effect we will create a single Layer Style and will apply it to each letter. Since each letter´s shape is different from the other, we will have to change the shading effect for each one.Go to the LAYERS PALETTE and select the layer with the letter C in it. Then choose GRADIENT OVERLAY from the Layer Effects popup menu. Copy the following settings, and keep the window open. DON´T press OK yet. Remember to use the new gradient we have already created some steps before.

11) Now click on the DROP SHADOW Layer Effect and use the following settings. Keep the window open, DON´T press OK yet.

12) Click on the STYLES option on the top of the window and then click on the NEW STYLE button and give it a name. The newly created style will show last on the list of styles. Now you can press OK to close the LAYER STYLES window. Do this other layers as well.

13) Move the LAYER STYLE window until you can see the letter R. You should do this because you can only edit the gradient position of the letter R while the LAYER STYLE window is open.

14) First, type -90 in the Angle setting of the Gradient Overlay window or you can also drag the gradient angle selector until it reads -90 degrees. DON´T CLOSE THE LAYER STYLES WINDOW YET. You will see how the letter R gradient has changed its rotation and it is vertical instead of horizontal. In the next step we will move the gradient a little bit to the left to make it look better.

15) The effect is finished. Since each letter has its own Layer Style, you can change the color of the gradient to whatever you want, as long as you keep the sharp paper cut shading effect. Let´s do something simple. Create a new layer at the top of all layers. 1 – Select the last layer (the T layer in this example). 2 – Click on the ADJUSTMENT LAYER icon and select SOLID COLOR. 3 – A new colour fill layer will be created and the colour picker window will open at the same time. When you are done, close the LAYER STYLES window. Choose a colour. Any colour you want. You will be able to change it later. Click OK and the layer will be filled with that colour. You image should now look like this one.

CREACTIVE Gathering

It was a beautiful Saturday morning, on the 3rd of July, in which a group of talented CREACTIVE-ians decided to spend their time singing. The occasion was the annual CREACTIVE gathering, and it was held at Red Box Karaoke, Low Yat Plaza. The karaoke session started at 11am and ended at 3pm.

Our Advisors joined in the fun, not wanting to be left out. Mr. Low, Ms. Joanna Lee, Mr. Loong and Ms. Quennie were the Advisors who attended, while CREACTIVE-ians who attended the event included Soon Jun, Hannie, Wai Leng, Zoe, Po Yen, Mei Jiun, Augustus, Ming Yen, Doris, Clarissa, Annabel and Jessieca.

Everyone had fun, singing their hearts out. They were especially excited when the Korean hit songs -”Sorry Sorry” and “Nobody” were played. All in all, it was a fun and memorable gathering. Hopefully, another gathering is on the way, one with the newer members.

A virus is often associated with a disease that caused by bacteria that can be spread in a short time, isn’t easy to kill, and has a huge impact on the body. Therefore, we can also associate the term “viral”, with something that spreads fast and gives a huge impact, like a video. Thus, when we say viral video, it simply means a video that is spread over the internet fast, and people remember it well.

Viral videos can be of all sorts; funky, creative, convulsive and much more. Because of the impact viral videos give, they are a hit with the advertisers and the advertising agency. So, it would make sense that a lot of effort is put into creating a good viral video, or a good viral ad.

There are results that show viral ads really help the companies to boost their sales, especially when the ad is a hit with the consumers, and the ads are a topic of discussion. For example, DIGI telecommunication’s hit video ad, “I Will Follow You” had the whole nation singing the song “I Will Follow You” as Digi’s theme song.

Following ads with the same theme were instantly recognizable as Digi ads. Let’s take a look at some popular viral videos on Youtube.

What do you do if you have Award Winning Advertisement Exhibition (ADWAVE), a competition and campaign for students to express their ideas, their creativity and their talent? Well, you ask your CREACTIVE members to participate, and hopefully, bring home pride, glory, and some prizes. The objective of the competition this year was to create a video that portrayed the spirit of 1 Malaysia.

After much hard work, time and effort spent on creating the short film, the students sent in their work, hoping to gain something from this opportunity. And, all that work bore fruit for the students. Two teams from CREACTIVE, along with two others from IACT College, made it as the top ten finalists.

The teams soon set off for Penang for the Awards Day, where the winners would be announced. The teams boarded the bus at 8.00am, starting the long and tiring journey of 5 hours to the land of great food.

The next day was the Awards Day, where the students would present their videos, explaining the concept and the ideas behind it. The CREACTIVE students put on a great presentation, trying their best to impress everyone. In the end, unfortunately, teams from CREACTIVE did not win.

Ms Joanna's Birthday

It was like any other day, the sky was blue, the grass was green, and people around Jaya One were happily living out their busy lives. There was one exception to the usual, mundane and boring day; it was Ms Joanna’s birthday. Our lecturer, advisor, motivator, counselor and friend, was born on the 9th of March, to be a blessing unto the members of CREACTIVE.

Since it was her birthday, the cunning minds of CREACTIVE sat down and formed a crafty plan. It was around 3pm that the plan was carried out. They waited patiently outside the office, like predators hunting their prey. Ms Queenie went in to lure her out. The silent CREACTIVE members waited until Ms Joanna was in the counseling room, then, SURPRISE!

Bowl O Rama

The balls were rolling during the Bowl O Rama, a friendly bowling competition organized by the Student Council. It was a blast, as the ten participating teams tried their hardest to get the highest overall score. Two of the teams, Budak Longakang and Team MoMo, were sent as representatives by CREACTIVE.

The competition started at 9 in the morning with all the teams ready to bowl. The competition was intense, with each team gaining a few strikes the first round. While the first round was competitive, the second round was even more so, with teams very close to each other in terms of points. All in all, it was a good game, each team having given their best.

And the winning teams are:

Budak Longkang took 1st place. The team consisted of Soon Jun, JC, Virginie, Augustus, and Thomas. They brought home prizes and made CREACTIVE proud.

No Idea came in 2nd, consisting of Kokilan, Derrick, Ryan, Riza and Vincent.

Cyberspam was 3rd, with Shaun, Adrian, Alex, Reugene and Suthesh in the team.

The Best Dress award went to the Nerds, consisting of Eddy, Azriel, Chee Ho, Ishnee and Esther. They caught everyone's eye with their nerdy costumes.

CREACTIVE was made proud once again, as both the Best Bowlers, Male and Female, were CREACTIVE members. Soon Jun won the Best Male Bowler award while Han Nie was named Best Female Bowler.

Ad Unplugged '09

It was a day of learning and teaching at Ad Unplugged '09, an event that gives a chance to students to learn from leaders in the advertising field. Attendees were given the opportunity to propose ideas and ads to six Executive Creative Directors who reviewed them and gave their opinion and advice.

The event was held at the TTDI Community Centre, organised by 4A's and 95% Advertising Academy.

Students from different colleges came together to brainstorm ideas and create ads for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), under the Student category of the Kancil Awards.

Eight from CREACTIVE were selected and sent to learn from this event. The lucky ones were Loh Soon Jun, Teh Han Nie, Yeong Kit Meng,Tan Ken Hui, Loo Wai Leng, Renna Tan Soo Chin, Jillian Hor Maelynn and Thomas Tan Chen Hou.

The six Executive Creative Directors who were at hand to impart their knowledge, all from different agencies, were Steve Hough, Andy Soong, Sa'ad Hussein, Szu Lee, Yew Loong and Jeff Orr. They assisted students in making improvements to the ideas generated. It was an interesting day, as many students came up with creative and original ideas.

The students were split up into groups of five to six people. Each group had to come up with an idea, whichthe Executive Creative Directors judged and decided which was the most outstanding.

Jillian, a member of CREACTIVE, and her team ended up first place with their brilliant ads for UNICEF, earning them the tickets to the Kancil Awards Dinner. Well done, Jillian! You made us proud.

All in all, it was a very good experience to work with the Executive Creative Directors, and the CREACTIVE members hope to put this experience to good use.

Momiji Party

Love was in the air as videos captured the hearts of judges and the audience alike during the Momiji party, held to announce the winner of the Momiji Student Video Contest. The contest, a collaboration between IACT College and Momiji, was to create a 5 minute video with the theme 'Spread the Love'.

The shortlisted videos were shown at the Momiji party, which was a blast, with performances, food, and of course, the Momiji Dolls. The MC for the night was Ms. Su, who entertained the crowd throughout the night. She told jokes, and even performed with her band. Finally, after some refreshments and more performances, the winners were announced.

The winners are *Drum roll*

Team Mo Mo, consisting of Chang Shin Lei, Teh Han Nie, Renna Tan Soo Chin, and Loo Wai Leng, all of them members of CREACTIVE. Their video, titled 'Spread the Love', showing global landmarks, touched the hearts of the judges, earning them the 1st place. They walked away with RM 2000 and limited edition Momiji Dolls.

Tan Chin Kent & Lau Ming Teck came in 2nd, with their video 'Steal the Love'. They had an interesting video, starring a robber and a Momiji Doll. They recieved RM 1000 and limited edition Momiji Dolls.

Jared Lee Wei Sheong was placed 3rd, with his funny and creative video 'Where Your Heart Is'. He won Rm 500 and limited edition Momiji Dolls.

All in all, it was a fun event and everyone enjoyed themselves, even the judges.

Turning Over a New Leaf

The 8th of August 2009 marked a very special day in our CREACTIVE's calendar, mainly because it was the day we arrived into our new home (CREACTIVE room, that is). Located next to the admin office on the fourth floor of Block K, Jaya One, we entered the empty room only to be greeted with two parallel orange walls which lit up the room's ambience, with a little bit of help from the sunlight. Yes, this time, we are proud to say that we have clear - with nice view - windows to feed our ever working minds.

As the CREACTIVE-ians and its advisors stepped into the room, we quickly started unpacking and setting up some of the old stuffs from the old room. This time however, our new room came with some add-ons. There was a brand new cabinet, a glass table and of course, a new air conditioner. What more could we have asked for.

As of now, all we can say is that CREACTIVE, along with IACT College, has turned over a new leaf. But in a good way though.

Well, we’d all love to stay and continue creating wonderful ideas and creations at our very comfortable CREACTIVE room forever but sadly, we can’t. As IACT College is moving over to Jaya One in Damansara, the new location for the college campus, CREACTIVE will be moving over as well. So long to our room, we’ll miss you so much!

On the 4^th of July 2009, all CREACTIVE-ians marched over to the CREACTIVE room with one agenda on their minds – spring cleaning. After hours and hours of continuous hard work, we were happy to say that CREACTIVE was ready for moving, but also heartbroken to see the room that we had crafted so many ideas in so empty and plain. Everything was fully fitted into very carefully hand packed boxes and then labelled, except for the floor, walls and ceiling, sadly.

Before leaving the room for the very last time, we had our usual ritual of picture snapping with the whole group together. That was the very last time any of the CREACTIVE-ians ever set foot in that CREACTIVE room.

The 23rd of June 2009 was a day not to be forgotten. CREACTIVE’s oldest biscuits (seniors) spent their last day in IACT College before officially graduating by ‘party-ing’ one last time in our very own CREACTIVE room with the rest of the team, and decorations in the room.

Instead of having a tear shedding farewell for our very beloved Manager and Assistant Manager, Yvonne Tai and Jade Lim, CREACTIVE decided that a happy ‘send-off’ gathering would be so much better. Thus, the many happy pictures where everyone was given a chance to pose their hearts out were snapped to commemorate the good times we have all had with our beloved old biscuits.

And for our dearest Anita Mui and Chee Ching, Chief Account Executive and Chief Graphic Designer, don’t think we have forgotten you just because you couldn’t make it to the gathering. We’ll always remember your teachings and your blessings.

Thank you so much to all our very old biscuits. We’ll miss you lots!

[Adveractive Wall] Creativity is Our Priority

We have come across of abysmal of advertisements in numerous forms of media but how many of them can we actually remember? This is where their execution method of the advertisements plays an extremely crucial role in conveying their message effectively. At CREACTIVE, we’d like to introduce you a brand new segment, “Adveractive Wall”, in hope to constantly share creative advertisements via our blog.

The first publish adverts on our blog would be the ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’ print ads.

Although these advertisements are plainly simple images of war and pasted on the ordinary street poles yet its message could be conveyed so clearly and directly via its creative execution method.

As CREACTIVE members and students of IACT, we often express our creativity in our tasks. Thus, we need more creative input apart especially from the infinite library that provides us with abundant of creative advertisements. We could then shower ourselves with knowledge and exposure from home and abroad to keep ourselves updated.

Project Facelift Competition - L'Oreal Paris

About a month ago, L'Oreal Paris asked IACT to arrange a competition to redesign their merchandising unit, code named, Project Facelift!

After weeks of hard work, six groups were short listed to present their ideas to the judges from L'Oreal. It was an eye-opening experience for all the contestants.

In the end, CREACTIVE's very own Han Nie and Renna walked away with the grand prize of RM1000, with Jade and Chee Ching coming in close at 2nd, followed by Jill and Kenneth. However, everyone walked away a winner for all the effort they put in, making this project a success.

Mr Low's Birthday

Last Thursday was one of our advisors’ birthday, Mr. Low. We, the CREACTIVE-ians had been planning to give him a surprise for about a week before. Unfortunately, we found out that Mr. Low was not free during our scheduled surprise at our meeting (or maybe it was an excuse). Maybe, he already knew that we had planned to do something for him.

So, half way through our meeting, we took a short break after orders from Ms. Jenny, our second advisor. The whole CREACTIVE group marched to Mr. Low’s office for our back up surprise plan.

Somehow, we the CREACTIVE-ians were the more excited ones. Downstairs, we prepared the birthday card where everyone signed and gave birthday messages (complimentary of Jie Yi), the cake and present before quietly going up into his office.

As we popped into his office, we started singing his birthday song out loud and passed him the cake and present.

He was seemed quite shy and happy although he said we didn’t had to do all those things. Later, we forced him to open his present on the spot and, guess what? The present turned out to be his favourite toy – a Transformer.

Thankfully, he was satisfied with the present we gave, but in the end, we had to teach him how to play with it. Jie Yi almost spoilt it though.

First Student Ad Agency in Malaysia

CREACTIVE is the pioneer student agency and the first of its kind in the country. CREACTIVE is akin to full-fledged advertising agencies and like any advertising agency, CREACTIVE offers a wide range of services to help companies build their market share; from advertising and public relations to sales promotion and multimedia designing.

CREACTIVE is very unique as it is an advertising agency run by students. IACT students are selected to hold posts that are found in advertising agencies such as Marketing Manager, Account Director and Public Relations Manager. Through CREACTIVE, IACT students not only gain work experience but also have the chance to hone their respective skills and put into practice what they have learnt in theory.

Since its birth almost seven years ago, CREACTIVE has been hired by various organisations to conduct market research, design corporate profiles, publicity banners, advertisements, posters and execute event presentations.

Clientele of CREACTIVE range from non-governmental organisations (NGO) such as Persatuan Pengasuh Berdaftar Malaysia (PPBM) to retail outlets to an advertising association such as the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As).
